When applying to Nigerian universities, understanding the admission requirements is crucial to avoid any surprises during the process. One key aspect that often causes confusion is the "two sittings" policy, where some universities do not accept O'level results from different exam sessions.

This means that candidates must meet all the required subjects for their chosen course in a single examination session. In this article, we’ll explore what the two sittings policy entails, which universities enforce it, and why it’s important to verify the admission criteria for each institution.

Does Two Sittings Disqualify You? Here’s What Universities Really Mean

When a university states that it does not accept two sittings, it means that during the admission process, your O'level (WAEC, NECO, GCE, etc.) results must come from a single examination session. This policy requires that all the required subjects for your chosen course be passed in one sitting, rather than combining results from two different exam sessions.

Examples:
1. One sitting: If you write WAEC in 2024 and meet all the requirements for your course in that session, it counts as one sitting.
2. Two sittings: If you write WAEC in 2023 and pass some subjects but need to combine it with NECO in 2024 to meet the requirements, that is considered two sittings.

In essence, the university requires a complete and satisfactory result from a single session, without combining results from different years or exams. This policy varies by institution, so it’s always best to confirm the specific requirements of the university you're applying to.

Nigerian Universities That Do Not Accept Two Sittings

1. University of Lagos (UNILAG)
2. University of Ibadan (UI) (for competitive courses like Medicine and Law)
3. Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) (for certain courses)
4. University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) (for competitive programs)
5. Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) (for specific programs)

Note: Admission requirements are subject to change. Always verify with the official university admissions office or the latest JAMB brochure.
